The Reykjavík Big Band announces their upcoming season 2017/2018. Variety of great concerts will take place at Harpa.
Ella Fitzgerald 100 years!
The first lady of song would have been 100 years old earlier this year. The Reykjavik Big Band commemorates her centennial with a program that spans her entire career in chronological order. Original arrangements will be recreated with some of Iceland’s most outstanding female singers and one male. Conducted by Sigurður Flosason.

What happened to the wolf?
“What happened to the wolf?” is and independent sequel to the much loved tale of Peter and the wolf. The Reykjavik Big Band celebrates the release of a new CD and book containing this ambitious work for children of all ages in cooperation with “The magic door”. Narrated by popular actor/singe Gói. Haukur Gröndal, the composer of both words and music, conducts.

Christmas fun with Gói and The Reykjavík Big Band
Actor, singer and host of Iceland’s main children’s show on TV, Gói, visits the Reykjavík Big Band for a fun filled one hour concert. Great Christmas entertainment for the entire family. Conductor and arranger: Haukur Gröndal.

The Golden age of Swing
Big Band’s annual and very popular swingin’ New Year’s concert, paying tribute to the Swing era; 1930-1950. Music from the bands of Benny Goodman, Glenn Miller, Cab Calloway, Tommy Dorsey, Gene Krupa, Duke Ellington, Artie Shaw, Count Basie etc. Outstanding guest singers visit. All original arrangements and every effort made to make the music sound authentic. Conductor: Sigurdur Flosason.

The Journey to Valhalla
A work by Steen Hansen, trombonist and sometimes conductor of the renowned Danish Radio Big Band in Copenhagen. The piece revolves around the gods of the old nordic mythology; Thor, Odin, Freyja et al. conducted by Steen Hansen.

The annual Big Band Marathon
The annual Big Band Marathon of the Reykjavik Big Band held for the 22nd time. The band invites all of Iceland’s big bands to visit at Harpa. Each band plays for 30 minutes. Youth and senior citizens, amateurs and hardened professionals playing for each other and all of you! Participants aged 10 to 80. Free admittance.

New Icelandic Music
An annual concert where the Reykjavik Big Band premiers new Icelandic music, written especially for the band. Composers and conductor to be announced later.
